"growing up" becomes a phrase that we use to conceal and ritualize the violence of telling young people to sacrifice their dreams and dismiss their creativity. "childish" becomes a word that we use to discredit, dismiss, and disdain. "idealist" becomes a synonym for "impossible" when a people have been made to sacrifice their empathy and imagination and call it "becoming an adult." in a world so burdened and overrun by maturity, immaturity becomes its own form of resistance. how can we relearn all of the earnestness and all of the wonder we had to lose in order to be taken seriously?
